Our Story
EbeneeZer’s Eatery & Irish Pub is located on the site that was originally the “Cozy Bar”, a laundry mat, and a grocery store. The Cozy Bar was small and was in the west half of the Pub side of Ebeneezer’s & the grocery store was on the Eatery side.
Being of Irish heritage and loving Irish Pubs, I wanted to open a pub somewhere in the downtown area. I used to stop at the small bar downtown (which is now Ebs) for an occasional beer and a bar pizza. One day in 1999 the bartender said that they were closing the doors in a week and that the 5 employees would be out of a job. I talked with the 2 sisters that owned the bar & restaurant business (they leased the space from the building owners) and by the end of the day, we made a deal. I was happy to be “Downtown”.
From that point, we worked on remodeling the Pub & Eatery every Sunday. (We were closed on Sundays.) We would clean up our mess Sunday night and have the doors open to the public every Monday. Our loyal customers continued to come and they watched as the construction continued for a year. 701-852-8110
We named the bar “Ebeneezer’s” based on a story I had heard on my visit to Ireland. Ebeneezer Frog hid his gold from the Leprechauns that were trying to steal it. My hobby has been visiting Irish Pubs where ever I go. (Not real healthy but fun). We have tried to create an “Irish working man’s Pub” with our atmosphere and menu.
We have since made improvements and developed our menu through the years (some by choice, and some by necessity). The flood of 2011 closed us down for 9 months shortly after my son, Hesston, took over as manager. Even though we had no insurance, there was not a doubt in my mind that we would reopen in the same downtown location. I took out a 2nd mortgage on my home and this time we worked Monday thru Sunday to get open as quickly as we could. We opened back up just before St. Patrick’s Day 2012.
It is our great customers and staff that make us successful and we are proud of both
